Why
Christians Keep the Lord’s DayFirst,
the Bible teaches that no one is to be judged by what day they keep.
Col. 2:16. One is not saved by a day, but by the Lord Jesus Christ. The
first day of the week is called the Lord’s day. Rev. 1:10 “This
is the day the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in
it.” Ps. 118:22-24 This
day is the Lord’s day, the first day of the week –
the day the Lord Jesus was raised from the dead. The
first day of the week is anticipated in the Old Testament as the
“eighth day,” as the day after the Sabbath. Lev.
23:10-11.
- Sheaf
of the firstfruits.
- On
the morrow after the Sabbath.
- The
sheaf was lifted from the ground where it had been lying and presented
to God. This is a picture of Jesus Christ.
- Compare
1 Cor. 15:20. Christ rose from the dead became the firstfruits.
- When
did Christ rise from the dead? “The morrow after the
Sabbath,” Matt. 28:1
Put
the Sabbath and the Lord’s day side by side and the grave of
Christ is in between. The Sabbath on the side of the grave and law; The
Lord’s day is on the other side of the grave. Salvation by
grace
alone, Eph. 2:8-9 To
teach the Sabbath is
to deny that Jesus Christ fulfilled all things. Those who keep the
Sabbath as a part of Salvation substitute Law for Grace, Moses for
Christ, Works for faith, Earth for heaven, Old creation for the new. To
observe the Sabbath is to put ones self under the law, Rom. 6:14. The
Christian is loosed from the law, Rom. 7:2. Delivered from the law,
Rom. 7:6. Christ is the end of the law, Rom. 10:4. The Christian is
free from the law. Rom. 8:2. The Christian is dead to the law, Gal 2:19
Compare
Ps. 2:7 with Acts 13:32-33. “Begotten” means
“the first born from the dead,” Col. 1:18. The
Sabbath was given to the Jews as a special people, Eze. 20:20. The
Lord’s Day (Sunday) given to Christians as a peculiar people,
Titus 2:14. Christians rejoice in the Lord’s Day, Ps.
118:22-24.
Because Christ was raised for our justification on that Day, Rom.
4:25.
As
far as the “Seed of Abraham” is concerned, there
are two seeds –
Abraham’s
seed of the flesh, the Jewish nation. Abraham’s
spiritual seed, Christians, Born-again ones.
